Samuel Quick, Sr.

It was early Tuesday morning November 18, 2008, when the Lord called Samuel home. He was living in Durham but was a long time resident of Asheville.

Samuel was born November 2, 1923, one of five children of the late David and Estelle Quick.

He was a graduate of Stephens Lee High School and an Army veteran of World War II, who served his country with distinction and honor.

Samuel was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church for several years before transferring his membership to North East Baptist Church in Durham, N.C. He enjoyed attending Sunday School and was active in the Senior Citizens Ministry.

Samuel was an original founding member of the Skyview Golf Association and served as an officer for numerous years. He was inducted into the National Black Golf Hall of Fame in July 2008.

He was a lifetime member and major contributor to the Boys Club of America.
He worked as a Maitre' d at the Asheville Country Club, Grove Park Inn and later retired from the Hilton Hotel.

Samuel was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Corine Chapman Quick.

He was a proud and devoted father. Samuel leaves behind two daughters, Shirley Gardner (Steve), of Durham, Linda Harris (Ronald), of Bahamas; two sons, Samuel Quick Jr., of Asheville and Richard Salters, of Virginia; seven grandchildren, Colena Corbett (Robert), Stephen Gardner, Kevin Foster, Sonya Quick, Kimberly Harris, Samuel Quick III and Eli Quick; one great-grandchild, Ezra; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He had a way of making you laugh. He will truly be missed.
